walk of shame

This morning it was time for the lovely Japanese Language Placement Test that I was looking forward to so much. Came to the room and sat down with everyone else. Looked at the first page of the test and may, or may not, have snorted out loud. Yeah, this was going to go well. After explaining how the test would be conducted, names etc written on the test - that's when they decided it was a good time to ask:

"Is there anyone here who has never studied Japanese before?"

These aren't even all of them...
I and a couple of other people raised our hands. And were told to take our belongings and leave. A walk of shame if I ever did one. We were moved to another room where a teacher came and talked to us about beginner's courses in Japanese. Turns out you can actually be at too low a level to start learning it! The teacher gave us each a book (meant for 5-year olds from the looks of it) and told us to learn ALL Hiragana symbols until the first class. Let me spell it out for you (pun not intended) - first class is in 9 days; there are a lot of symbols (see picture).

Sure, you say, sure she only said that. You can learn to recognise them, don't have to...oh but yes, I do. I believe she used the word "perfectly". Learn them perfectly or you won't be able to follow the class. Wihu! That's my entire week planned then!

Took a few more photos of our Mita Campus, below.

Building...

These little gems are everywhere. Tea, water, coffee, vitamin drinks and so on.

Fellow Swede!

More building...

...and more...
